Origins of Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a fast-paced sport that was invented by the Native Americans. It's played with 10 players per team.. Each player has a role to play in order to score points or defend their goal.
Lacrosse Sticks
Lacrosse sticks are made of wood or plastic tubing with synthetic mesh netting and leather lacrosse strings. A lacrosse stick is also known as a crosse, lacrosse racquet, lacrosse head or lacrosse club.
A lacrosse stick should measure between 40 inches to 42 inches long. The goal of the player who holds it is to catch, carry, throw and shoot the lacrosse ball into his opposing team's goal. He also has to defend the opposing lacrosse team by deflecting lacrosse balls heading toward his own net.
There are 3 types of lacrosse sticks:
- Field lacrosse stick - it has a wide scoop for handling and catching the lacrosse ball. It is used in outdoor lacrosse games, mostly for offensive plays.
- Indoor lacrosse stick - it is smaller than the field lacrosse stick and has a more narrow scoop. This lacrosse stick is designed for quick passes and handling in indoor lacrosse games.
- Women's lacrosse stick or crosse - this lacrosse stick has a shallower pocket to accommodate women's hands, making it easier to throw and catch the lacrosse ball.
The lacrosse pocket is on the lacrosse stick head and it's where you can catch and throw the lacrosse ball. The lacrosse netting should be deep enough so that when a player flicks his wrist to throw, the lacrosse ball falls back inside the lacrosse head.
Lacrosse Uniforms and Equipment
Aside from lacrosse sticks, players also wear helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and gloves to protect them from injury during the game. The lacrosse ball is made of solid rubber and is 5 inches in circumference and 1 inch thick.
Lacrosse Gameplay
Lacrosse is a fast-paced sport that requires agility and speed. It is played with one goal in mind, which is to score by throwing or rolling the lacrosse ball into the opposing team's goal. Players on each side of the lacrosse field work together as a unit to win their game.
